September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month!
Do You Have Your Library Card?
Now through September 30, 2020, you can win a $25.00 gift card raffle to celebrate this special time of year for libraries nationwide.
“How do I win?” Open a new library card or renew your expired library card. It’s that easy. There will be 2 raffles and 2 gift cards given away 1 for those that renew and 1 for those who open a new library card.
(Disclosure: your card must be up for renewal and can not be renewed earlier than your renewal date if your card is past due for renewal it can only be the month of or after (example my card was due in August I would qualify to be entered, my card was due in July I do not qualify to be entered. My card is due in October so I do not qualify to be entered. You must have never had a library card with the Nancy McConathy Public library to qualify to open a new library card. Our wonderful staff will be able to help you determine if you have had a card in the past.)
Top ten reasons to have a library card: Books DVDs and CDs Programs and Events Computers, and Printing Friendly, Helpful Staff …and so much more! Have we convinced you yet? Come in today and get your library card! ($25.00 gift card winners will be notified early October 2020).
The programs will be coming to you through our Friends Of The McConathy Library Facebook page here! Dionne will be providing cooking, exercise, crafts and other types of programs every week and everyone is welcome to join in. These events will take place once a week and will be brodcast in real time so you can follow along.
We hope to see you tuned in!
We hope to be able to allow smaller group programs at the library in the near future. Plans are being made for a Summer Reading Program as well as a Summer Program for kids that will take place at the library while still taking safety measures. More information will be sent out and posted when the plans are finalized.
Like and follow the page so you are notified when the program starts here!
As a Library, we strive to be a communal space, a source of information and a safe place for all. Due to the overwhelmingly high number of recent events that have exhibited division, harm and fear we wanted to share the following resources. We know many of our patrons are looking for ways to explain the news to their children or are even struggling to make it make sense for themselves. While our doors remain closed at this time, know that we miss you and are still here as a place to seek knowledge and we remain an ally.
Be well, be safe and in a world where you can be anything…. Be kind
Respectfully, Rosie L Williams-Baig, Director & the McConathy Public Library Board of Trustees

Need food assistance?
The free food pop-ups hosted by the Southland Voice, Barb Dorman and the Illinois Partners in Hope are a great resource for anyone in need of food assistance. Click here to find food pantries as well as to follow the page to know when the mobile food pantry is available. There is also a #freefoodpup & #Illinoispartnersinhope attached to posts when the event is ready and open to the public. These pop ups are done in many different locations and sometimes in the library's parking lot. If you plan to attend a food pop up bringing your own boxes helps a lot! There are also limits to make sure that everyone can receive items!
